2010 - This year’s Lamafest and Alpaca Showcase Fiber Show has three categories in which to display your best fiber and fiber products including: Fleece, Handspun Skein, and Walking Fleece.

The llama fleece classes will be judged for ALSA and ILR points. Maryan Baker will be our judge for full llama fleeces, and llama walking fleece, and Deb Yeagle will judge 2 oz. llama and alpaca fleeces. Anthony Stachowski will judge alpaca walking fleece.

FULL FLEECE

All entries must be sheared within 2 years of the date of the show, please submit at least a 2 oz. sample of the fleece. All age references are the age at time of shearing. There will be 3 llama fiber divisions: single coat, double coat, and suri. There will be 2 llama age categories: up to 24 months, and 24 months and older. Classes may be combined at judge’s discretion. Please refer to page 98-99 in the 15th edition of the ALSA Handbook for fleece preparation information. This is an optional ALSA class, and will not earn points. Those wishing to bring a full fleece may bring them to the show for judging. The 2 oz. sample fleeces will be pre judged, and should be mailed to Tina Etter by Aug. 20, 2010.

Alpaca fleeces will be suri or huacaya with 3 age divisions, 5-12 months, 12-24 months, and 24 months and older. There will be a minimum of 4 color classes (dark solid, medium solid, light solid, gray/mixed) and further color divisions will be made as entries warrant at the judge’s discretion. This will be an ALSA show. These fleeces will be pre judged, and should be mailed to Kevin Sullivan by Aug. 20, 2010

Each entry must include the following information: copy of registration certificate, accurate date of shearing, accurate date of previous shearing, gender, owner identification and birth date of animal. Please submit completed individual entry forms with each fleece sample.

HANDSPUN SKEIN
All entries must be 100% handspun llama or 100% handspun alpaca, at least 1 ounce and must include a description of the intended use for the yarn. Wool may be dyed. It should be twisted into a loose skein. Entries are to be taken to the Pavilion at M.S.U. before 7 p.m. on Friday Sept. 3, 2010.

WALKING FLEECE
This class provides an opportunity for llama owners to learn about fleece characteristics and management while receiving a professional evaluation. The age and class divisions are the same as the shorn fleece division. Exhibitors will bring their animals to the judging area during the hours the judge is available. Please have your animal judged before applying grooming products to the fiber. Entry fee is $15. Please register with your entry form, individual forms for each animal to be completed at the show.
